How to reduce eye-strain from a computer?

90% of people who are spending more than 3 hours per day in front of screens are experiencing eye-strain. Sometimes they transform into massive headaches that can interfere with your work or personal life. If you are among those who have similar problems, we have some tips that will help you reduce eye-related problems.

Consider using Blueblocker glasses

Eye strain usually happens because of the blue light and glare on the screen, causing your eyes to work harder than they should. By blocking blue light from digital devices you can minimize your eyestrain, which helps to prevent headaches that appear as a consequence.

If you are purchasing prescription glasses from crulle.com, you can choose blueblocker lenses in the checkout process. You can also choose lenses without diopter and add only blue light protection to your lenses.

Use proper lighting

Eye strain is often caused by excessively bright light either from outdoor sunlight coming in through a window or from harsh interior lighting. When you use a computer, your ambient lighting should be about half as bright as typically found in most offices.

Eliminate exterior light by closing drapes, shades or blinds. Reduce interior lighting by using fewer light bulbs or fluorescent tubes, or use lower intensity bulbs and tubes.

Modify your workstation

Poor posture can also contribute to eye strains and headaches. Adjust your workstation and chair to the correct height so your feet rest comfortably on the floor. Position your computer screen so it's 50 to 60cm from your eyes. The center of your screen should be about 10 to 15 degrees below your eyes for comfortable positioning of your head and neck.

Take frequent breaks

To reduce your risk for eye strain and neck, back and shoulder pain, take frequent screen breaks during your work day (at least one 10-minute break every 2 hours). During these breaks, stand up, move around and stretch your arms, legs, back, neck and shoulders to reduce tension and muscle fatigue.

Exercise your eyes

Another cause of computer eye strain is focusing fatigue. To reduce your risk of tiring your eyes by constantly focusing on your screen, look away from your computer at least every 20 minutes and stare at a distant object (at least 6m away) for at least 20 seconds. Looking far away relaxes the focusing muscle inside the eye and reduces focusing fatigue.
